Detail of a AAA speedway embroidered hat. It's interesting the little details we don't perceive until we look at something up close. | teamkniffin posted a photo:

Manfredo Lypmann bought this OSCA from the factory in Bologna to race in the Carrera Panamericana in 1954. OSCA's were constructed as pure race cars to challenge the big cylinder cars. They were called Giant Killers and were driven by famous drivers like Stirling Moss who won Sebring in 1954 in an OSCA. |

This BRG Jaguar D-Type was entered and raced at the 1956 running of the 12-Hours of Sebring and also finished 6th at the 1957 Cuban Grand Prix. It is currently raced in historic events. | Nigel Smuckatelli posted a photo:

This is one of 12 sports racers built by Dolphin Engineering in San Diego, CA. The car was very successful due to the contribution of Ken Miles in its early development. This car was previously owned by Porsche dealer Otto Zipper but its success against Porsche Spyders caused factory Porsche to "suggest" that they discontinue racing the car. |

I fell in love with this car as soon as I saw it at Amelia. It is the 32nd of 55 Short Wheelbase California Spyders built. It was shipped by Ferrari to Luigi Chinetti Motors for the Ferrari display stand at the 1962 New York Auto Show. This particular car came from the factory with the desirable covered headlights and leather on nearly every interior surface, most likely due to its New York Show car status. | Nigel Smuckatelli posted a photo:

Another view of the car that Steve McQueen drove in the movie Le Mans. Steve was quietly criticized by several of the professional drivers hired to work the film. When they would finish filming on a particular part of the Le Mans course Steve would drive like a "bat-out-of-hell" back to the pits. The other drivers thought this was amateurish. I disagree. Steve was only allowed to drive the 917 in the film. His insurance company wouldn't permit it outside of filming. This was his only chance to drive these beautiful machines and he went for it. So would I, had I had the chance. |
