Something I found on the bookshelf and thought lets see how the detail looks on it...

Here I have the SB-600 pointing towards the ceiling, about 50cm behind the D90. The SB-600 is on another tripod. The ceiling is white.

D90 set to Commander mode and set off using the ML-L3 remote. I placed my hand in front of the on board flash so the reflection didn't appear on the bulb.

I had THEE best time working with Fingers to come up with the look for this. Nikita Fride's skin 'Criminal' was the inspiration and then he pulled out the horns and it all fell into place from there.

This is slight better but still poor focussing. This is with minimal post processing, the focussing is not good enough, post processing really screws things up a notch.

This is a really poor shot, nice timing but poor focussing. I had to shoot with manual focus so couldn't get the focussing right. I am cursing myself now. To see droplets bouncing was just amazing but inability to capture them was frustrating. Next time, may be.

So this is my little attempt at a home mode scoop light mock up. And I have to say, I think I like it! Well, the results that is... hand holding a mirror while trying to manually focus gets a little bit old. The light is so much nicer, not that totally hideous on camera flash I'm always trying to avoid. And it makes for nice catch lights in her eyes too!

And I even finally got her eyes in focus! Yipeee!

Ginny says thanks for looking and now someone (er, dad, cough, cough) needs to buy mom a scoop light so she doesn't keep running around with a mirror all the time!
