This is a photo of my paternal grandfather, William "Dale" Smith Sr. He was born in 1894 in Trinity County, Texas. He was drafted, trained and shipped to France. As he was marching to the front lines, the Armistice was declared. He is holding a Springfield rifle, .303 caliber.
