There?s little doubt that Twitter was one of the most talked about startups over the past year. But just how much did it grow in 2008? The final numbers are in, and according to Compete, they?re astounding: 752%, for a total of 4.43 million unique visitors in December.
After starting the year with only around 500,000 unique monthly visitors, Twitter saw its most dramatic growth in the back half of ?08, picking up more than one million additional visitors in December alone. And that?s ... Read more... | dpstyles? posted a photo:

The never-dull Mark Cuban explains to Crunchgear a bit more about why he acquired a 9.4% stake in Carmike Cinemas (CKEC), America's fourth-largest movie chain.
He thinks people hunger for social experiences outside of their homes, and 3D movies and events are the answer. Well yeah, we've got to admit, we're dying to see the Knicks play in 3D.
For the past I-don’t-know-how-many years, it’s been a move from large to small — smaller HD, smaller internet, smaller portable devices ... Read more... | dccrowley posted a photo:

Last night at the offices of blogging software company Six Apart, engineers and social media specialists from a number of companies large and small met to discuss proposed standards for the future of "activity streams" - the system of displaying recent activities of your friends online. Think Facebook Newsfeed, the basic format of FriendFeed, or the kinds of update chronicles we're seeing now on almost every social network around the web.

So I've decided to have a go at doing this 52 Week Project thing as part of my NY's resolution - also because of part of the theme of this first week, because I got bored!
My new year's resolution was to spend more time on my academic studies and less time on facebook...clearly something which has not happened. I think most students are familiar with this situation where a cure for bordom is to drastically seek for people to talk to on Facebook, oh and as an excellent procrastination from writing that essay.
So this week that I've had from work, which I should have spent writing my tragedy essay, has been spent being bored on Facebook - what a constructive way to spend my time! Would have been better not bothering working and gone and visited some real friends and spoken to them in person.
At least I've kept my other NY's Resoltion...to start a 52 Week Project. Let's hope this one lasts a bit longer! | techchuck posted a photo:

Burger King has had some pretty outlandish ad campaigns--most recently with the "Whopper Virgins" TV ads--but a new marketing scheme that utilizes Facebook is possibly its strangest yet. Burger King is asking people to drop ten friends on Facebook to receive a free whopper.
The Whopper Sacrifice Facebook app will let you print out a coupon good for one free whopper--after you drop ten of your friends. Normally, when someone drops a friend on Facebook it is done discretely, but Whopper Sacrifice ... Read more... |

Tapulous CEO Bart Decrem sent out an email to investors yesterday updating them on the status of the iPhone/Android focused company. It was forwarded to us, and we reprint it below.
The company makes the popular Tap Tap Revenge application as well as Tweetsville and others. Like competitor Social Gaming Network, everything they touch seems to turn to gold.
In the email Decrem says they have had 5 million unique installs of Tap Tap Revenue and claim it is the third most popular application for ... Read more... |
